Beds

Picture: Distribution of Beds in Bosnia In the beginning Children In Crisis concentrated on actions that helped people to survive from the war. Later on we tried to start support to those refugee families who went back to their houses and land where they often were confronted with burn-out houses and farms. And again we concentrated on the help of children.
We realised that often children in refugee camps and in war torn areas do not have a bed on their own. Together with their families they have to camp somewhere, often sleeping on the naked and cold floor without matresses.
For these kids we organized bunk beds because most of the families have more than one child. The bed of ones own can mean a symbolic hiding place to the children where they can have a little bit of privacy, can feel protected and warmth.
It turned out to be very difficult to build beds on our own. Wood is very hard to organize and is used to rebuild the destroyed houses.
We managed to get bunk beds from a German factory. The transport to Bosnia was paid for from donations only.
